Description
The Great Dane is a giant dog that show power and elegance. They are tall and have large muscular bodies. Their ears are also pointed when cropped or floppy if left alone.


Size
The adult male Great Dane is 30-34 inches tall and weighs 120-200 pounds. The adult female is 28-32 inches tall and weighs 100-130 pounds.


Coat
The Great Dane has a short, thick, shiny, close-fitting coat.


Color
The standard colors of the Great Dane are black, black & white, blue, brindle, fawn, harlequin, mantle, merle, and white.


Temperament
Great Danes are gentle, docile, and affectionate. They are dignified, kind, sweet and also playful with children. This breed is also brave and loyal. They make great family dogs if they are given adequate attention and companionship.


Care
Grooming the Great Dane is easy. They have a short smooth coat that can be brushed and combed daily. Brush the coat with a firm bristle brush and dry shampoo when necessary. Keep the nails trimmed.


Exercise
A Great Dane needs a good amount of exercise and loves going on a daily brisk walk. Having a large yard where they can run and play is advised.


Training
Sometimes difficult to train they should be put through obedience training. They make good watch dogs because of their large size.


Shedding
This breed is an average shedder.


Barking & Howling
The Great Dane does not bark much.


Life Expectancy
A well cared for Great Dane can live up to 10 years.


Health
Some health issues in this breed are hip dysplasia, bloat, tumors, and heart disease.
